31 MARCH TO 6 APRIL 2019 - SKALA - POLAND
Monday, 1st April
We met for the first time in the host school for official opening of the 2nd partners’ meeting where we showed our presentations about exploring industrial heritage and case studies. We enjoyed the show of military education students. Next, we walked to Boroniówka flour and sawmill. There, during the workshop with the owners of the place, we prepared sweet version of traditional dish of ‘pierogi’, filled dumplings. Finally, we climbed up to Grodzisko settlement, place of the origins of Skała.
Tuesday, 2nd April
In international groups we strolled around the city centre of Cracow. After quick lunch we visited HistoryLand in the former railway station with Lego bricks models presenting important moments and places from Polish history. There, we met one of the three founders of HistoryLand. With him we worked on job positions and employment structure in this place. We also analysed the necessary features that a good boss or leader should have. In the end we suggested some ideas for future development of this innovative museum.
Wednesday, 3rd April
We went on a trip to Silesia region and followed the Industrial Heritage Route. We visited Guido Coal Mine and watched presentation about how in Silesia region they try to explore places connected with industry. After lunch in pizzeria we traveled to Gliwice Radio Station where we suggested how to re-use the place for new activities.
Thursday, 4th April
We started this long day at school with a debate about heritage being a blessing for some and a curse for others. Also, we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of workplace proximity from the point of view of a worker and the employer. We did not visit Nikiszowiec live in Silesia but we saw a short presentation about this mine workers’ district in Katowice. We finished the morning with project work. We designed new companies connected with industrial heritage. We shared our ideas with our friends.
In the afternoon we visited trout farm where its owner presented their strategy for high quality produce of fresh trout. We analysed the promotional tools effective for this business. We also discussed the impression that certificates and titles of won competitions add to the image of a company.
We finished the trip with a walk to Maczuga Herkulesa rock. Its shape is present in the logo of local diary producer, who also manufactures typical Polish fudge sweets.
We ended the day at school with a meeting with host families. We received certificates of attendance and had good time together.
Friday, 5th April
We started the day very early with a visit to Wieliczka Salt Mine. Besides being a tourist attraction on UNESCO list, it is also a company that is present on the market for over 500 years and had at different stages of its development various strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT).
In the afternoon we had the chance to admire the views over Kraków from Kościuszko Mound and learn more about II World War history in Auschwith Museum.
