Colégio Rainha D. Leonor is situated in Caldas da Rainha and provides education from pre-school (3) to secondary level (18). In secondary school (10th, 11th and 12th grade) students can choose their area of studies among Science and Technologies or vocational education (Sports, Educational Assistant, Marketing). There are 600 students attending the classes including 160 at secondary level. The staff include 53 teachers and 14 educational assistants. -This institute is aware of the importance of learning English (our students learn the language from pre-school to secondary school), soft skills (we have mindfulness programmes) and digital skills (robotics and programming). Simultaneously, we educate our students to be global world students. Our students are very interested in exploring the world, especially in getting to know different cultures, different traditions and different languages. Portugal has rich history related to the “Época dos Descobrimentos” (Age of Discovery, 15th century), therefore travelling to learn about other countries and receiving in our country different cultures is something that is part of our legacy and that we enjoy. However, our teenagers sometimes aren’t aware of the value of their culture and this project might help them live and learn more their History and their Geography. By taking part of this project, we expect to show all of these aspects, teach our history, explore our local music, present extraordinary authors that wrote about our country, show different traditions and how the country links modern life and ancient traditions. On the other hand, we want to learn more about other countries and other traditions. All the activities are sure to improve our pupils’ language verbal skills, their responsiveness to culture, their soft skills and capability to work in group, namely hearing and respecting others’ opinions. Our students are from Sciences, so they tend not to study History and Geography so we are sure that this project will help them improve their knowledge and skills. We would like to explore lots of subjects with this project. - Sandra Santos – school headmaster, experienced Portuguese and English teacher, fond of Literature and History of Portugal. Ricardo Machado - school project coordinator, teacher in the area of computing, involved in projects related to robotics. Marco Baiana – Music teacher, speaks Italian, fond of learning and teaching traditions of different cultures. Raquel Galeão – Physical Education teacher, member of school board, experienced in international projects. -The school, its pupils and staff can contribute their experience in international projects, cultural awareness, eagerness to learn and cooperate at international level. As the school’s expertise is Science and Technology, we are ready to do the lion’s share of the digital output like videos, multimedia or digital game related to cultural heritage.
